Letter of Support for Story County Water and Land Legacy Bond

Story County Water & Land Legacy Bond

As we approach the upcoming November vote on the Story County Water and Land Legacy Bond, the Ames Regional Economic Alliance wishes to express our strong support for this vital initiative. This bond will significantly enhance our community’s livability and environmental health by focusing on crucial projects that benefit both residents and visitors alike.

Investing in our natural resources is essential for the sustainability and growth of Story County. The proposed bond will support:

  1. Improving and Protecting Water Quality: By enhancing the quality of our rivers, lakes, and streams, we can ensure clean water for drinking, recreation, and wildlife. Additionally, measures to reduce flooding will protect our homes and businesses, fostering a safer environment for all.
  2. Acquisition and Development of Public Parks and Wildlife Areas: Expanding green spaces not only preserves our natural heritage but also provides essential habitats for local wildlife. Public parks encourage outdoor activities, improve mental health, and create a sense of community.
  3. Construction and Improvement of Trails and Conservation Facilities: Well-maintained trails promote outdoor recreation, attracting hikers and cyclists, which in turn supports local businesses. The development of conservation facilities will provide educational opportunities about our natural resources, fostering a culture of stewardship among residents.

The Story County Conservation Board’s management of these initiatives ensures that they will be handled with care and expertise, prioritizing the community’s needs and environmental integrity.

We urge all residents to support the Water and Land Legacy Bond. Investing in our environment is an investment in our economy and our quality of life. Together, we can create a healthier, more vibrant Story County for generations to come.

Sincerely,

Chris Nelson, Chair, Ames Regional Economic Alliance Board of Directors

Jeff Janes, Chair, Ames Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors

Dan Culhane, President & CEO, Ames Regional Economic Alliance
