Prairie Place Grand Opening Strengthens Boone Housing Supply & Supports Workforce Growth

Boone, Iowa — The grand opening of Prairie Place took place on December 9, marking the arrival of a new mixed-use residential and commercial development bringing 23 new homes to the Boone community, including 7 townhomes and 16 modern apartments designed to support workforce retention, neighborhood growth, and long-term community vitality.

The project represents a significant investment in Boone’s housing future and received $775,643 in Workforce Housing Tax Credit support through the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA), in addition to a 10-year TIF tax rebate approved by the City of Boone as part of its commitment to expanding attainable housing options for residents and incoming workforce.

“Prairie Place continues the momentum of quality housing development in Boone — creating new and modern housing options for the expanding workforce, as well as additional space for businesses to grow,” said Brenda Dryer, Executive Director of the Boone County Economic Growth Corporation. “Quality and affordable housing is the foundation of growth in a community, and this milestone reflects the shared investment and collaboration that keep Boone moving forward.”

Debi Durham, Director of the Iowa Economic Development Authority & Iowa Finance Authority, underscored the statewide importance of projects like Prairie Place, stating, “When families can find quality, affordable homes, they put down roots — and that gives businesses the steady workforce they need. It’s that kind of stability that keeps our communities strong and our economy moving forward.”

Community Impact & Housing Benefits

Prairie Place delivers new rental opportunities designed to meet the needs of working families, local employers, and future residents. With proximity to US Highway 30, local schools, recreation amenities, retail, and employment centers, the site offers a strategic location for those looking to live and work in Boone.

Commercial space available for lease within the development also creates new room for small business growth, community services, and future expansion.
