Safe in the Sun 5K/10K Run for Melanoma Research
Ames, IA – March 25, 2025 – The Central Iowa community is coming together for the third year to raise awareness and funds for melanoma research with the Safe in the Sun 5K/10K Run. This annual event, hosted by the Cancer Bucket Foundation, will take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 9:00 AM at Ada Hayden Heritage Park in Ames, Iowa.
Whether you’re a runner, a walker, or a supporter of the cause, the Safe in the Sun Run offers a meaningful opportunity to help in the fight against melanoma and skin cancer. This event supports The Cancer Bucket Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to funding groundbreaking melanoma research and promoting skin cancer prevention.
Founded in 2022 by Jordan Hauck, a two-time stage 4 melanoma survivor and Founder of Crown Cover, along with Dr. Leslie Christenson, a dermatologist specializing in skin cancer treatment, and Megan Burt, a skin cancer survivor and Doctor of Physical Therapy, the foundation has raised over $28,000 for melanoma research. These funds support critical research into immunotherapies that are transforming cancer treatments for patients worldwide through the University of Iowa Center for Advancement.
How You Can Support the Safe in the Sun Run and The Cancer Bucket Foundation:
- Register to Run or Walk: Sign up for the 5K or 10K and join us for a day of fun and purpose.
- Donate: If you can’t participate, you can still make a difference by donating to the Cancer Bucket Foundation to support melanoma research.
- Sponsor: Proceeds from sponsors go directly to melanoma research and initiatives that promote sun safety and early detection. Your sponsorship helps fund research grants and support efforts to educate the public on skin cancer prevention.
“We’re excited to see the community come together again for this important cause,” said Jordan Hauck, Founder of The Cancer Bucket Foundation. “The funds raised through this event will continue to support life-changing research and raise awareness about the importance of skin cancer prevention. Together, we can make a real impact.”
