October 2026 End of Month

End of Month - October 2026

Election season can be exhausting. Between the constant stream of political ads, social media posts and competing messages, it can be difficult to cut through the noise. But elections matter. The decisions made by our elected officials have a direct impact on our businesses, workforce, schools, infrastructure and quality of life across our region.

At the Ames Regional Economic Alliance, we believe meaningful engagement with elected officials starts with open dialogue, a willingness to listen and a commitment to working together. Throughout the year, we connect with leaders at the local, state and federal levels to advocate for our region, share the perspectives of our business community and advance policies that support economic growth and community development.

That commitment also means creating opportunities for our members and the broader community to hear directly from those seeking public office. This year, we were honored to welcome both gubernatorial candidates to the AREA Podcast. Our goal was simple: provide a platform for thoughtful, substantive conversations about the issues that matter to Iowans.

After the episodes were released, we received an email from someone who shared how powerful it was to hear each candidate speak about the issues important to them. That message reinforced why we believe these conversations matter. Regardless of where we stand politically, listening to candidates explain their priorities and perspectives help us become more informed citizens. We were grateful to play a small role in making those conversations possible.

As a nonpartisan organization, the Alliance does not endorse candidates. Our responsibility is to engage with elected officials and candidates from both sides of the aisle, build relationships and ensure the needs of our four-county region are part of the conversation. That work does not begin or end on Election Day. It is an ongoing commitment to collaboration and progress, regardless of who holds office.

As you make your plans for Election Day, I encourage you to vote, stay informed and take the time to learn about the candidates and the issues on the ballot. Our democracy is strongest when people participate, ask questions and engage in respectful dialogue.

Following the election, the Ames Regional Economic Alliance looks forward to working with those elected to serve our communities. While we may not always agree on every issue, we share an interest in building a strong future for our region and the people who call it home.

Thank you for being part of that effort.
