The hosts of the Discovery Channel’s popular show, “RV There Yet?” will visit the Ames area in early October as part of a production session for a show that will feature local sights in Boone and Story County and include tailgating at an Iowa State University football game.

The show is being organized locally through a collaboration between the Ames Regional Economic Alliance, Discover Ames, and Visit Boone County.

“We are excited to bring the Discovery Channel to our region and highlight some of the incredible amenities that we have,” said Eric Smidt, Vice President of Marketing & Communications for the Ames Regional Economic Alliance.

The “RV There Yet?” series, which began its third season on the Discovery Channel in April, takes viewers on road trips featuring “wild adventures, crazy detours, and campfire fun along the way.” Hosts “Producerman Kevin” McCabe and his wife, Patrice, hike, camp and eat their way across the United States as they make new friends, learn local history, create memories and inspire viewers to plan their own RV adventures.

The episode featuring the region will be based at Ledges State Park and will highlight the Rail Explorers on the Boone Scenic Valley Railroad and High Trestle Trail in Boone County before moving to Ames for food and drink opportunities, a visit to Reiman Gardens, and tailgating at the RV lot at Jack Trice Stadium.

“It has been incredible to work with Kevin and Patrice, as well as our local partners at Discover Ames and Visit Boone County, to help plan out the episode,” said Smidt.

Kevin McCabe was raised in Cocoa Beach, Florida, and majored in mass communications at the University of South Florida when he decided that television production was the career for him. Patrice McCabe grew up in Nebraska, and together they worked on a successful fishing show called “Addictive Fishing,” which aired on the Discovery Channel and Bally Sports Sun, for more than 20 years.

The McCabes’ will be in the area October 1 through 5 when the Cyclones host the Baylor University Bears. The season three finale of “RV There Yet?” will air September 14, which means the local visit will be featured in its fourth season and air in the spring of 2025.
